Why Aligned Administration is Criticial
A car can’t move if the parts of the engine are not aligned with this purpose.
I often think of the word alignment and feel we should use it more when discussing what makes a business successful. It may be my background in a business that did vehicle alignment but I think it’s more a part of my nature. I simply like to align things to the business purpose. If you are a small trade business that purpose has to include doing a good job, on budget and ontime. Aligning your admin with this purpose can yield great results.
Why you should align your admin and business purpose.
Big reductions in invoicing time and frustrations
Much easier bill management
More accurate job costing
Useful financial reporting (P&L’s that align to your needs!)
Increased job clarity and standardisation for staff
Easier and more effective delegation of tasks
Optimisation of software and plant, so a better return on your investment
Greater staff engagement and purpose as staff know what they are doing and why plus how they can offer ideas of value.
Consider admin an essential activity that increases the bottom-line
Admin can drive alignment, if the administrator can work at management and leadership levels. Admin for Tradies has that capability.
By definition, admin is not a value added activity (based on the lean definition of value). However, it is essential and if used to drive alignment then it will have a very positive effect on the bottom line.
If your admin staff are only working from a paradigm of doing routine tasks the same way over and over, then invest in continuous improvement training and lean thinking so they learn to fous on alignment and system improvement.
